The Alabama Principal Leadership Development System (APLDS) is a comprehensive system of learning and support for school administrators’ leadership development while aligning with our state's strategic plan.

Alabama Principal Leadership Development System
The goal of the program is to increase the effectiveness of school administrators resulting in improved academic outcomes for all students. The Alabama Principal Leadership Development System targets leadership development through state leadership standards, a leadership framework, high-quality professional learning, a principal mentoring program, a leadership academy, and an evaluation system.

Every school is equipped with an effective leader who successfully participates in and engages with the Alabama Principal Leadership Development System.
Mission
The Alabama Principal Leadership Development System empowers district and school leaders through comprehensive support to enhance visionary, instructional, managerial and operational, relational, and innovative leadership to increase student achievement, growth, and school climate.

School Principal Leadership and Mentoring Act
The School Principal Leadership and Mentoring Act was passed in 2023 to create and implement the
Alabama Principal Leadership Development System for public K-12 education and provide annual stipends for principals and assistant principals who satisfactorily complete the program requirements of the Alabama Principal Leadership Development System.
