The K-5 2019 Alabama Course of Study: Mathematics Overview is professional learning for elementary teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and elementary math coaches. The 3-hour session focuses on understanding the new 2019 Alabama Course of Study: Mathematics and its conceptual framework: Position Statements, Mathematical Teaching Practices, Student Mathematical Practices and the K-5 Content Areas. This session provides opportunities for participants to apply their learning from the Math Foundational Training and take their learning deeper as they analyze learning progressions and determine how to incorporate the mathematical practices throughout math instruction.

During this 1-day session, participants will explore the structure of the 2023 Alabama Course of Study: Science, including the conceptual framework, position statements, and how to interpret the content standards. This professional learning opportunity will also allow participants to develop a deeper understanding of the three dimensions associated with each content standard: disciplinary core ideas, scientific and engineering practices, and crosscutting concepts. Participants will also learn how to access and navigate resources provided by the Alabama Learning Exchange, AMSTI, and ASIM.

This 1/2-day PLO deeply delves into Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and how it relates to educator wellness and inspiring students. We will explore self-care strategies educators can use to promote physical, mental, social, and emotional wellness. In addition, participants will explore strategies that can be applied at each level of Maslow’s hierarchy to make students’ educational experiences more engaging and invigorating.

In this 6-hour PLO, participants will 1) Explore the three-dimensional components of science instruction and assessment as outlined in the 2015 Alabama Course of Study (ACOS): Science, 2) Analyze and interpret ACAP Science data to discover proficiency levels of students across Alabama, in your system, and in your school, and 3) Explore ACAP resources that will help you connect your classroom instruction and assessment to the ACOS standards.
