This all-day in-person training is designed for new principals and new district leaders to provide an overview of the Alabama Literacy Act, including important aspects of leading literacy achievement in schools and districts. APLDS - ARI: 2025-26 ARI Science of Reading Spotlight Schools
Alabama’s SoR Spotlight Schools were selected based on their strong commitment to Alabama’s K - 3 learners. SoR Spotlight Schools not only meet the requirements of the Alabama Literacy Act by ensuring K-3 faculty participated in SoR training, such as Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS), but showed student progress in reading achievement as evidenced by the grade three reading outcome data between 2019 and 2024. These schools continue to enact best practices in leadership alongside effective foundational literacy instruction.

The Classroom Organization and Management Program (COMP) is a research-based, research-proven professional development program that can help educators learn to create and manage an effective learning environment in the classroom. Workshops focus on establishing conditions for learning. Participating teachers in the workshops find their classrooms foster student academic achievement and have reduced discipline problems. Topics and outcomes include: * learning about research on successful classroom management, * analyzing actual classrooms in light of best practices, * reflecting on classrooms, and * planning specific strategies for enhancing classroom learning environments.

APLDS - RIC: 2025-26 The High Road to Leadership Excellence-Building Lasting Impact in Education (PLUACLD 1386)
Participants in the study will journey through John C. Maxwell's book, High Road Leadership, while building supportive relationships with other administrators and leaders in the region through accountability partnerships. The University of Alabama/University of West Alabama In-Service Center will be the initial host site, but this study could be offered in another region or a school district using the same format. This professional study will be open to all regions of Alabama.

APLDS - RIC: 2025-26 Unlocking Superpowers to Enhance District and School Cultures (PLUACLD1322)
The purpose of this professional study is to engage instructional leaders into critically examining indicators of culture/climate at their respective districts/schools and to apply principles of Jimmy Casa’s (2022) Recalibrate the Culture: Our Work, Our Why, and Our Values. Instructional leaders will develop ways to enhance school/district cultures/climates based upon data and tenets of culture/climate. Data will then be used to create an Action Plan for the school/district of the instructional leaders. Data to create Action Plans will include but is not limited to: (a) teacher chronic absenteeism, (b) behavioral data of subgroups and demographic data, (c) student chronic absenteeism, and (d) student/parent climate surveys.
