This three-hour professional learning session focuses on vertical planning with K-12 educators to establish clear, consistent mathematical language and notations across classrooms and grade levels. Participants will work collaboratively to identify terminology and notations that may expire and develop a plan for addressing them. Using a variety of resources aligned with the 2019 ALCOS: Mathematics standards, as well as ACAP, ACT, and formative assessments, attendees will work to ensure coherence in their teaching. The session will specifically target the content area Algebra, including Operations of Algebraic Thinking and Functions.

SDE-AMSTI-MTH-Vertical Planning with The Math Pact K-12: Algebra and Functions Part 1 is a prerequisite for this session. The session will specifically target the content area Algebra, including Operations of Algebraic Thinking and Functions.

Labs are open to K-3 principals only, but assistant principals may attend the virtual sessions.

Leadership labs are an opportunity to engage in school-embedded professional development as a team of principals. Leadership labs are structured around an observation of a principal leading the coaching effort, accompanied with a debrief to unpack implications and points of learning that relate to leading a successful coaching effort.

This is a 2-year course that first requires a LETRS online account. Participants are required to have online access to the LETRS for Administrators Platform.

The LETRS course of study has provided administrators with a deeper understanding of the science of reading and structures for effective implementation by covering all layers of language organization (phonology, orthography, morphology, syntax, semantics) and their relevance for teaching reading, spelling, and oral language.
