High-Quality Professional Learning
We know that what is learned and how it's learned matters if principal professional learning is going to have an impact on student and school outcomes (Darling-Hammond et al., 2022). We are dedicated to providing high-quality professional learning (HQPL) for principals and assistant principals in the state of Alabama. HQPL experiences target school leadership development and are comprehensive, sustained, job-embedded, and collaborative approaches to improving the effectiveness of school administrators in elevating student achievement through professional study. Additionally, HQPL experiences align with the Alabama Standards for School Leadership and the Alabama Standards for Professional Learning.
One requirement for successful completion of the Alabama Principal Leadership Development System (APLDS) program each year is that principals and assistant principals must complete
at least 30 APLDS Clock Hours of high-quality professional learning from the state-approved list.

Description
PLEASE NOTE: If you are participating in this professional learning experience in partial fulfillment of the requirements for an ACLD PLU, you may be awarded credit for this PowerSchool Professional Learning Course but not be awarded full credit for the clock hours stated in the PLU.
There are many people who touch the lives of students who receive special education services through an Individualized Education Program (IEP). The Local Education Agency (LEA) representative is an important and required team member of each student's IEP team. As a member of the IEP team, this person works collaboratively with other IEP team members to develop a program based on each student's unique needs. Unfortunately, this is not always the case because some of the LEA representatives are not certain of their role nor do they understand their legal and professional job duties as the IEP meeting's "process leader." Through a partnership with Resolutions in Special Education, Havard Educational Consulting, and ALA-CASE, this PLU will provide educational leaders who serve as IEP Team LEA representatives the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in this role.

APLDS - CLAS: September LI: Empathy and Repairing Harm
Description
PLEASE NOTE: If you are participating in this professional learning experience in partial fulfillment of the requirements for an ACLD PLU, you may be awarded credit for this PowerSchool Professional Learning Course but not be awarded full credit for the clock hours stated in the PLU.
Forbes magazine (2021) and other research institutes state that “empathy is the most important leadership skill...” This finding relates not only to the business world but also to schools. Navigating the social-emotional needs of students and staff requires us to suspend judgment, and instead emotionally understand another’s experience. This training will link the core assumptions outlined in the book, Circle Forward: Building a Restorative School Community, to the practice of empathy and repairing harm. Through a deep understanding of empathy, restorative work, and the tenets of dialogue vs. discussion, school leaders can develop a true understanding of the core assumptions. Additionally, educational leaders will hone the vital skills of unconditional positive regard and presumption of positive intentions.
